Nick was born in Pembury in 1951 and lives in Tunbridge Wells. By profession he is a Solicitor. However, he retired from private practise to study Art, for which he has a life long love. He obtained City and Guilds in Ceramics and Working Designs. He then studied Fine Art at Hastings College of Art and Technology, graduating under Brighton University with a  B.A. Hons in Fine Art and Design in 2005.

He is a member of “Splash” a group of Artists in the Hastings area of East Sussex. He also has a studio in St Leonard’s.

He has an interest in Mental Health and has been involved in several local Art Projects over the years, which he has found incredibly inspiring. He is aiming to continue with further projects in the future.

With regard to his Abstract Painting, he has adopted an approach of painting involving the application of abstract ideas about colours, mood and composition to express his own specific and personal visions of a place, a landscape, people and feelings. Quite often his work will have a strong figurative content. In his painting he enjoys painting both abstract and representational work.

Nick also enjoys the challenge of painting the figure and portraiture. The figure has often been central to some of his major projects as a means of expression of ideas and emotions. The human form has a universal relevance and personal significance to us all.

In his recent figure paintings he has been inspired by Matisse, Degas, Bonnard, Toulouse Lautrec Sickert and Marlene Dumas.

Nick has been exhibiting his work recently with the “Splash “Group of Artists in Hastings and also at the SoCo Gallery in the Town.
